Jason Hackner Releases “Never Ask What Could've Been”

The Final Single from Fictional 1991 Glam Duo Glam* — First Entry in the ARRANGEMENTS Universe

Recording artist and theatrical producer Jason Hackner has released “Never Ask What Could've Been,” the final studio track from Glam*, the fictional Wham!-inspired duo at the center of his upcoming world-premiere musical dramedy ARRANGEMENTS.

Set in 1991, the song is presented as the last recording made by Glam* before the duo's split — a glittering, propulsive glam-pop track that conceals a fractured relationship beneath its sheen. The song is written from the perspective of Ray Benedict, performed with Sasha Baptiste as the star. Ray's real heartbreak becomes Sasha's signature moment. It is the wound the show is built around.

“Never Ask What Could've Been” is the first public artifact from the ARRANGEMENTS universe — a trilogy of original musical dramedies currently in development under Jason Plus Productions. The show opens August 2026 in Charlotte, NC.

The single is available now on Spotify and all major streaming platforms.

A Note from Jason Hackner

“I've been living with Ray and Sasha for a long time. ‘Never Ask What Could've Been’ is the song that started everything — the last thing they made together before it all fell apart. It sounds like a hit. That's the point. Ray wrote his own heartbreak into a dance track, handed it to Sasha, and watched him become a star with it. That's the wound ARRANGEMENTS is built around. This song is the first piece of a world I've been building for years, and I'm thrilled to finally let people hear where it begins.”

About the ARRANGEMENTS Universe

Never Ask What Could've Been is the first released artifact from the ARRANGEMENTS universe — a trilogy of original musical dramedies written and produced by Jason Hackner under Jason Plus Productions.

ARRANGEMENTS (World Premiere, August 2026, Charlotte NC) — Set inside a queer-owned nightclub on Arrangements Night, the show follows Ray Benedict, a reformed pop star and recovering addict, on the night his former partner Sasha Baptiste walks back into his life. A live five-piece band. Audience voting that determines the outcome. A masquerade. A room full of strangers making a decision together.

Faith or Freedom and Inferno — the second and third entries in the trilogy — are currently in development. Together, the three works explore the love we inherit, the love we survive, and the room we build so neither one destroys us.
